Post Settings

Discourse has a lot of settings to govern post formatting, which can be quite prescriptive. We are not yet aware of them all. If you try to post and get a message telling you to change something, please assume this is the website’s default, not an admin choice, and let us know about it so we can decide if we want to keep things that way. We have turned off the rule forbidding allcaps posts, the rule demanding posts have at least 7 unique characters, the rule forbidding emoji in titles, etc. We don’t expect these to be very frequent but there are times it is nice to be silly.

EDIT: The little guidance messages that show up on the right sometimes are also not our invention; if they are annoying we can change or remove them.

Have found the place to adjust the guidance messages and removed most of the text. They still have the informative content/links, but gone are the little nudges to be polite and soforth. Those condescend to new users, make it sound like we expect everyone to fight all the time, and if someone does intend to fight all the time, a little plea in the preview window is unlikely to be much help.
